Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency

by guest blogger Miriam Sellick

'Energy conservation and efficiency may be related, but they have distinct definitions in the energy world. Energy conservation involves using less energy by adjusting our behaviours and habits. Energy efficiency, on the other hand, involves using technology that requires less energy to perform the same function.'

Hi, my name is Miriam and I am a student currently working on my Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteering project, and I am taking the opportunity to share the energy awareness posters I have produced with PECT’s audience. I am passionate about stopping climate change and I want to be a sustainability engineer in my future career.

I have carried out research to create two posters, one on Energy Saving and the other on Energy Efficiency, because these are the top two tiers of the energy hierarchy, and so will make the biggest difference in terms of reducing your carbon emissions and stopping global warming.

My posters build on my work towards achieving my GCSEs (especially Chemistry, Geography and Physics), and provide quick and positive ideas to help save energy.

Read PECT’s further tips on keeping your home warm and saving energy here.

I’ve also created a short survey so you can tell me what they think of my posters – and the ideas on them. I want to make the most of my Duke of Edinburgh Award project by analysing this feedback, so I really hope you will take two minutes to fill in my survey. Please take part in the survey here.

UPDATE - I thought you might like to know that I've finished my Energy Envoys Awareness project, and I've uploaded my DofE report and Assessment :-)

If you would like to see the results and analysis of the survey, please click on the link below: https://www.surveymonkey.com/stories/SM-HSHXM82C/

Thank you to all those who took the time to help and support me - it is appreciated.

Miriam
